According to a CFB analyst, Texas A&M is 'not a real contender'

Texas A&M's 48-20 win over Arizona State was a tale of two halves, which has been the case since the Aggies' 50-0 opening-season win vs. Missouri State, as the Aggie defense produced two pick-six scores, while starting quarterback Marcel Reed threw three touchdowns but passed for a meager 163 yards and tossed his first interception of the year.

The Aggies offense has struggled to find its footing over the past two games, totaling a pedestrian 255 total yards, including 92 rushing yards against ASU. Winning is all that matters, and making the "winning plays" necessary to close out games, but only producing three explosive 20-plus-yard plays is not good enough, especially with SEC play beginning this weekend, as they host Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.

Still, Marcel Reed has notably improved as a passer, completing 65.5% of his throws in the first two games for 396 yards and five touchdowns, but thanks to four new starters along the offensive line, Marcel Reed has yet to see consistently clean pockets, while the run game, despite recording 236 rushing yards against Missouri State, averaged 2.6 yards per carry against ASU.

Texas A&M's defense looks the part, and if it weren't for Arizona State WR Reed Harris' 189 yards and two touchdowns, it would have shut down the Sun Devils' offense, especially in the second half, scoring 24 points and shutting out the Sun Devils.

While the Aggies are still figuring out their offense, college football analyst David Pollack isn't patient when it comes to Texas A&M's postseason contender status and making it back to the College Football Playoff, stating on his recent podcast that the Aggies are not a "real contender" for the CFP and that he does not see enough "offensive juice" or "punch" through two games.

Again, this is based on two games, where the Aggies outscored Missouri State and Arizona State 98-20, but hey, no one is surprised that overreaction season is upon us before SEC play.
