Oklahoma Sooners projected to land speedy 2028 three-star prospect

Saturday will mark the start of a massive recruiting weekend for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Head coach Brent Venables and staff will host many of the top prospects from across the state, and already some national insiders are projecting the Sooners to land a couple. This comes after Oklahoma has already earned a pledge from Bixby (Okla.) tight end Connor Arant this week.  

So, could more good news be coming as the Sooners take on the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday? Steve Wiltfong of Rivals and On3 issued a prediction favoring the Oklahoma Sooners for 6-foot-2, 180-pound wide receiver Kenyon Sweat on Thursday.

According to 247Sports, the Cache, Okla. talent is rated as a three-star prospect. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 49 overall wide receiver in the 2028 class, and the No. 8 prospect in the Sooner state. He's yet to earn a ranking from Rivals and ESPN.

As it stands, Sweat has 11 offers spanning multiple conferences. Those 11 offers include Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, TCU, and UConn. It was just this past August when many of his offers began piling in.  

The part of Sweat's game that has caught the attention of many programs is his blistering speed. Back in June, Sweat clocked a laser-timed 40-yard dash of 4.35 seconds at Iowa State's camp.

That speed is on full display in his sophomore-season Hudl highlights. Specifically, the second play of the montage shows him taking a handoff, bursting through the hole, and practically outrunning the camera on the way to the end zone. He is an explosive player who can take a screen pass the distance. Sweat also has good field vision, which lets him make the right cut between defenders.

All of his skills are translating to wins so far in his junior year. Sweat has helped Cache, which competes in Class 4A, to a 3-0 record this season. His squad is averaging 41.3 points per game. In each contest, Sweat has scored a touchdown of over 35 yards.

Speed is something you can't teach, and the Sooners are trying to make sure one of the nation's fastest players doesn't go elsewhere. Wiltfong, who has a 92% (1,337 of 1,452) correct pick rate, believes the Sooners will achieve that goal.
