Tennessee favored by more than five touchdowns against Kennesaw State

Tennessee’s third and final non-conference game is set for Saturday night at Neyland Stadium, with Kennesaw State coming to town. Jerry Mack, Josh Heupel’s former running backs coach at Tennessee, will lead the Owls into town coming off of a 31-17 loss to Georgia State last weekend.

According to Fanduel Sportsbook, Tennessee is a 35.5 point favorite. The Volunteers are coming off of a dominant performance at Georgia Tech last Saturday, passing their first true test of the season. It was a big night for DeSean Bishop, as the Volunteers got their run game on track to derail the Ramblin’ Wreck.

Per ESPN’s SP+ rankings, Kennesaw State ranks 111th in FBS. Mack’s Owls won the C-USA title last season, going 10-4 overall. Kennesaw State beat Jacksonville State 19-15 to win the title, but went on to lose the Myrtle Beach Bowl to Western Michigan.

Mack went to the portal to land former LSU and Syracuse quarterback Rickie Collins for this season. Collins has thrown for 431 yards through two games, running for another 97.

“Yeah, their wide receivers are electric,” Josh Heupel said this week. “They can push the ball vertically down the field. Their quarterback (Rickie Collins) is truly a dual threat. He’s growing in the understanding of their pass game here the first couple of weeks. But when he tucks the football on design quarterback runs or scrambles, he’s dangerous out on the perimeter.”

Faizon Brandon will have another opportunity to get a little more comfortable with the college scene on Saturday, getting one more shot to work some kinks out before things get very real against Texas. The new No. 1 team in the land will head to Knoxville next week in another early season showdown.

First things first though — Tennessee and Kennesaw State are set for a 7:45 p.m. ET kickoff on SEC Network.
