The UCLA Bruins hosted a ton of recruits for their home opener last weekend against San Diego State. The environment at the Rose Bowl along with UCLA’s win will hopefully help some recruits see the revival of the program, leading them to wanting to commit to the Bruins.

Among the recruits in attendance for Saturday’s game was 2028 four-star quarterback Josiah Boyd. 247 Sports Composite has Boyd as the No. 7 quarterback in the 2028 class and as the No. 81 overall recruit. Boyd then announced that UCLA was one of three finalists for his commitment, joining Oregon and Kentucky.

Boyd, the Southern California native, is entering his junior season with Vista del Lago High School in Moreno Valley. Currently, Boyd has helped lead Vista del Lago to a 3-1 record, throwing for 602 yards and scoring 12 total touchdowns in the season’s first four games.

The young quarterback has received offers from Oregon, Ohio State and Florida, with Boyd having taken unofficial visits to LSU along with Saturday’s trip to the Rose Bowl. UCLA has proven to be a capable recruiting school under Chesney, with the Bruins landing dozens of players in the transfer portal this past offseason and are currently own the No. 17 2027 recruiting class according to 247 Sports Composite rankings.

While UCLA could potentially return starter Nico Iamaleava in 2027, the program does not have a clear QB of the future. Boyd has the talent to potentially become that quarterback of the future but is far from a sure thing to wind up in Westwood with the Bruins.
