Miami rewrote several records last week, routing visiting Florida A&M, 77-7. The Hurricanes set a school record with 856 yards of total offense and their 77 points tied a program mark, while their 42 first downs marked a new ACC record. Miami led 49-0 at the half and 77-0 after three quarters. Darian Mensah finished 14-of-15 for 252 yards and three touchdowns, Javian Mallory picked up 142 yards on 10 carries, and Mark Fletcher Jr. added 105 on seven attempts, with each scoring twice. Six different receivers caught TD passes as backup Luke Nickel was a perfect 8-of-8 for 144 yards and three touchdowns.
Gio Lopez followed a three-yard touchdown in the second overtime with the game-winning two-point conversion as Wake Forest escaped at Purdue 38-36 on Saturday. The Demon Deacons blew a 10-point lead in the final 3:53 of regulation before recovering in OT. Lopez finished 16-of-27 for 225 yards and a touchdown through the air while picking up 59 yards on 13 carries with two scores.
The Hurricanes hold a 9-3 edge in the all-time series with eight consecutive wins. The Demon Deacons last won against Miami on Oct. 27, 1944. Mensah comes in completing an absurd 91.1% of his passes for 653 yards and eight touchdowns, while Malachi Toney has 16 catches for 330 yards and four scores. Lopez put up 575 yards and four TDs on 62.7% passing in the first two games for Wake Forest, and Ty Clark III leads the ground game with 141 yards and a score on 19 carries. Carlos Hernandez adds 11 receptions for 253 yards and a TD.
