All eyes will be on the LSU vs. Ole Miss showdown this weekend, given that Lane Kiffin is headed back to Oxford, Mississippi, for the first time since ditching the Rebels right before the College Football Playoff last season. The atmosphere is going to be wild, and Ole Miss is going to be playing with revenge on their mind.

In anticipation of that matchup, Ole Miss WR Deuce Alexander fired a shot at Kiffin’s LSU, prompting 2010 Heisman winner Cam Newton to take notice and offer a word of advice to the young wideout.

Cam Newton Warns Deuce Alexander Against Playing into Lane Kiffin’s ‘Trap’

Alexander is more than fired up to play LSU. He played for Ole Miss last year under Kiffin and felt the betrayal firsthand after he left them before their biggest game of the season. Alexander’s entering the game with a chip on his shoulder and has duly warned the LSU secondary to be ready.

“Just get ready. It’s going to be a bloodbath,” said Alexander.

Alexander isn’t wrong. Oxford is going to rock and give Kiffin and LSU all the hate they have in their heart. But Kiffin has embraced the villain role and is no stranger to controversy. LSU had plenty of enemies ahead of their season opener and dominated Clemson.

Upon hearing of Alexander’s remarks, Cam Newton warned the WR that Kiffin might be playing a trap here and should be aware of it.

“Keep the main thing the main thing. Don’t be a distraction. This game doesn’t need more kerosene on the fire,” Newton said.

“Y’all playing the game that Lane wants y’all to play. All the extras should not affect the actual football game,” he added.

Ole Miss fans are certainly preoccupied with Kiffin’s return and not treating this top-10 clash as just another game on their schedule. Well, they’re not wrong; it’s personal to them. If it’s personal for the fans, then it’s more than personal to the staff and players that he ditched midseason.

But given the game’s fiery nature, the Rebels need to keep their focus on the task at hand and not react to the drama Kiffin loves to stir up.

If the Rebels want to win, they must stay true to their principles and rely on their elite offensive weapons.

Trinidad Chambliss is one of the best quarterbacks in college football, and Alexander is off to a scorching start in 2026 himself, with 235 receiving yards and two touchdowns through the first two games.

The LSU secondary didn’t need much of a warning because they’ll be keyed into the Rebels’ leading receiver.

There might not be a better game in college football this regular season, given the circumstances.

Ole Miss has banned all purple and gold from its student section and will remove anyone who tries to wear them there. This doesn’t affect the team, but it is exactly what Newton is warning Alexander about. The focus must be on beating a tough SEC rival and not on the vitriol toward Kiffin.
