Texas football came out on the winning side in what's likely to end up as one of the most thrilling games of the 2026 college football season, a come-from-behind 24-23 victory against then-No. 1 Ohio State last Saturday.

What do the Longhorns have in store for an encore?

In its first game since assuming the No. 1 ranking from the Buckeyes in the US LBM Coaches Poll, Texas will take on UTSA in a Week 3 matchup on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Coach Steve Sarkisian's team took a significant step in its path to a College Football Playoff berth with its Sept. 12 win over Ohio State, a game in which it scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. In a victorious effort, quarterback Arch Manning threw for 195 yards and rushed for another 24, with much of that production coming in the final quarter.

The Longhorns will square off this week against a UTSA team that's off to a 2-0 start, including a 31-26 victory in Week 2 against Texas State, a game in which the Roadrunners scored the winning touchdown with 14 seconds left in regulation. UTSA quarterback Owen McCown, the son of longtime NFL quarterback Josh McCown, has thrown for 489 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the first two games.

It will be the third all-time meeting between the programs, all of which have come since 2022. Texas won the previous two matchups, including a 56-7 victory in 2024.

It's quite possible that the Longhorns could start slow if they're still nursing a hangover from their massive win seven days ago against Ohio State. But even if that happens, they simply have too much for even an impressive Roadrunners squad to adequately handle.
