Whether LSU Tigers fans want to acknowledge it or not, which they don't gauging by social media reactions, Missouri Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz has certainly been a name to watch in the Baton Rogue coaching search.

He may soon be taken out of the search, though, as Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger reported that the Missouri Board of Curators will be meeting on Wednesday to potentially "authorize the university to move forward with a proposed new contract."

This is not an official confirmation that a new contract is on the way, nor has any contract been finalized or signed, but it indicates that Missouri is ready and willing to step up and secure its coach.

Drinkwitz is an up-and-coming coach and has been tied to both the LSU coaching search and the open Penn State Nittany Lions job this cycle.

It would also make sense for the coach to stay with Missouri, where he is already beloved and work out some of the wrinkles.

He has done a great job saving the Tigers program. They were a bottom-feeder in the SEC for years and he has guided them to a 28-9 record since the start of the 2023 campaign. They are more active in NIL now and much better at recruiting.

Missouri still can't win the big game, though, which is why some LSU fans have been wary of targeting the coach. He is just 6-16 against ranked opponents and the wins he does have under his belt aren't elite.

After the Brian Kelly saga, the Tigers might want to target a coach that has a bit more experience in winning major games.
