Mississippi State football quarterback Kamario Taylor looked elite in a Week 3 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks in Williams-Brice Stadium, a game that caught the attention of former Missouri Tigers and NFL quarterback Chase Daniel. The Gamecocks got two key players back for the contest, but it didn’t matter as 17 unanswered third quarter points from Coach Jeff Lebby’s Bulldogs led to victory.
Daniel called Taylor an “absolute nightmare” to defend after the game in a series of comments made about the South Carolina signal caller. He demonstrated Taylor’s proficiency in the passing game with former Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow after Taylor’s big performance.

Taylor completed 18-of-26 passes for 251 yards and four touchdowns while also throwing an interception and rushing for 33 yards on a day when his counterpart LaNorris Sellers outgained him in total yards. The home team outgained the visiting Bulldogs by a final tally of 431-393 yards, but Taylor’s arm made the difference on an exciting day in The Palmetto State.
The Bulldogs are getting healthy at a great time with the meat of their SEC schedule still to come, continuing with Daniel’s alma mater, the Missouri Tigers, at home on September 26. That game will be followed with a colossal home tilt against Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama Crimson Tide on October 3 that will show just how far Taylor and coach Jeff Lebby’s team has come. Three subsequent games against LSU, Oklahoma and Texas will determine whether or not Taylor’s team has a shot at the College Football Playoffs and a possible SEC title game appearance.
For now, fans, including Daniel, are happy with what they’ve seen from their rising star quarterback, and the Bulldogs. Winning on the road against winning teams in the SEC is rarely easy, an axiom that was proven correct yet again in a close Mississippi State win.
