Players from Ohio State’s 2024 national championship football team joined Tim Tebow at a red-carpet premiere event celebrating “Redemption,” a new docuseries highlighting the Christian faith journey of the football team.
Gee Scott Jr., a member of the 2024 Buckeye squad, chatted with past Buckeyes Master Teague and Roy Hall Jr. as well as Tebow about life outside the spotlight during the 2024 season. Tim Walton, co-defensive coordinator for the Buckeyes, also participated.
They discussed the pressure of the team’s expectations and the experience of losing to Michigan in 2024.
Tebow, who won a national championship with Florida in 2006 and 2008 under former Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer, said he initially expected the 2024 Ohio State team to win every game. But he ultimately saw their loss to Michigan, their second of the season, as a good thing for their championship run.
“They’re going to play to such a different level of effort, focus, and attitude,” Tebow said. “I actually believe in a unique way, and I know y’all won’t like this, but losing to Michigan was a gift. In the long run that it actually was a gift.”
The docuseries premier event was held at One Church in Gahanna. Greg Ford, lead pastor there, said he hoped people would walk away with a concept of redemption that would help them persevere in the midst of adversity.
“Whether it’s a career, whether it’s family, whether it’s faith, we have setbacks, and what do you do then?” Ford said. “In the documentary, it’s about a football team, but it’s about a lot more than football. It’s about what you do at your low points.”
The night included a Q&A with these former players and a presentation from Tebow about the work of his foundation to serve vulnerable people around the globe.
