Michigan Football rises in ESPN FPI after blowout win vs UTEP

The Wolverines are moving on up.

After a 52-17 demolition of UTEP on Saturday, Michigan (3-0) moved up two spots in ESPN’s FPI rankings to No. 20 in the nation, earning an index score of 14.9.

The Wolverines have a pair of crucial tests upcoming against No. 28 Iowa (12.1) and No. 11 Penn State (18.2), both of which separate Michigan from the FPI’s top Big Ten teams — No. 1 Ohio State (28.1), No. 5 Indiana (24.6) and No. 9 Oregon (19.2).

Meanwhile, the Wolverines have a projected win-loss record of 8.1-4.0, a 2.8 percent chance of winning the conference, and an encouraging 23.6 percent likelihood of reaching the College Football Playoff. However, their odds of making the National Championship (2.1 percent) and being crowned national champions (0.7 percent) remain unsurprisingly low.
