Bulldogs quiet Spartans

In the Battle for the Valley, only fans of the teams and true sickos stayed up for this late-night game that didn’t deliver that much excitement. It was 13-3 entering the 4th quarter, but an offensive “outpouring” resulted in a 26-10 win for the Bulldogs. The defense was the story for the night, as Fresno State produced four interceptions, two by Ethan Tierney, and notched five sacks as well. The offense is still a work in progress.

Texas State Offense & Defense shine

The Bobcats got their first win of the season behind big performances on both sides of the ball. Continuing their tour of Texas schools, the team put up over 600 yards of offense behind an outstanding game from QB Brad Jackson. He tossed four TDs and went for 268 yards. Davian Jackson added 3 scores on the ground. The Texas State defense was far from perfect, giving up over 500 yards of offense themselves, but they produced two turnovers and got stops when they needed to.

Beavers win in a blowout

The first win of the Jamarcus Shephard came in dominating fashion. Sure it was against FCS Montana, but that is what teams should do against FCS opponents. Braden Atkinson had a huge day, throwing five touchdown passes, including one to Jesse Legree, who notched 100 receiving yards as well. Atkinson got to spread the ball around, with nine different players catching a pass. They lead the country in passing offense and seem to be hitting their stride, playing three pretty good games and finally getting a win.

Jason Eck doing big things at New Mexico

No one who follows the Mountain West is surprised at this headline, but it’s nice to see Coach Eck and the Lobos get some national attention. He’s a tremendous teacher with a style and personality he’s not afraid to embrace. Now, he’s making New Mexico football relevant, with a chance to win a conference championship at the end of the season for the first time since 1964. Throughout the story are some hallmarks of who Eck is and how he coaches. He has some witty film assessments, reserves his harshest assessments for after wins, and communicates confidence about winning games during big game weeks.
