More damning details emerge on Hunter Yurachek's failures

We have gone on record as saying that Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek, not Ryan Silverfield, is the main problem with the football program and should be fired. More details – specifically numbers, and more precisely dollar figures – are affirming the case for Yurachek's dismissal. 

The website Coaches Hot Seat has picked up on reporting from The Athletic on financial expenditures for football rosters. The numbers plainly speak for themselves:

"Hunter Yurachek has hired this coach multiple times, once in December and once again every time he opens his mouth. In December, he stood beside his new hire and explained that Sam Pittman had not been given the resources to compete in the SEC, which is an athletic director announcing that the previous six years were his own doing and waiting for the room to admire his candor. He promised the new money would push Arkansas into the top half of the league. The Athletic’s estimate of 2026 roster spending puts Arkansas last in the SEC at $22 million to $25 million, against a league average of $33 million to $38 million. Football under Yurachek has gone 36-61 overall and 14-52 in conference play across eight seasons, and the Razorbacks are 1-10 at home against SEC teams since the start of 2023.

Hunter, when the fan base does the math better than the athletic department, the math isn’t what went wrong. The coach has been doing a second job since the day he landed. On his first radio show in August, Silverfield told Arkansas that most of his time goes into raising money. He was not complaining. He has said he would raise $100 million or pick up trash, whatever the job asks, and he means it, and at Memphis he pulled corporate money out of FedEx while everyone else in the American was passing a hat. Arkansas hired a head coach in December and put him on the road with a pledge card. Then the team committed 8 penalties against an FCS opponent and got run out of Salt Lake City by 33 points."

Hunter Yurachek is hiring second-tier coaches, handing them third-tier levels of investments, and expecting them to deliver first-tier results. It's obvious malpractice. When will anyone in the Arkansas administration at least sit down with Yurachek to say this is unacceptable? When will school leadership stand up and put an end to a clown show which has gone on far too long? It's time for Arkansas to act on Hunter Yurachek. This mismanagement cannot be allowed to continue.
