Jon Sumrall's maiden season with Florida has been a raging success thus far. Following a dour 4-8 campaign, the Gators are flying, winners of three straight to kick off the campaign.
Ranked No. 21 in the latest AP poll, Florida is poised to burst — at least in the minds of some onlookers. Sumrall's side will get its first real test on Saturday afternoon when it takes on No. 4 Ole Miss at home, a matchup that promises to bring about fireworks.
Las Vegas views the matchup as something of a coming-out party for the Gators, who have, remarkably, entered the game as slight favorites. Sumrall isn't convinced that should be the case, however.

What did Jon Sumrall say?
Sumrall praised Ole Miss following its momentous triumph over LSU and former boss Lane Kiffin. He also took exception with the idea that the Gators should be considered favorites to bounce the Rebels. Sportbooks have listed Florida as a 3.5-point chalk horse ahead of Saturday's game.
"There's a lot of good drugs out there," Sumrall quipped during Monday's presser. "I didn't even know the favored deal, but whoever is doing that, I don't know, they haven't watched the tape."

Sumrall's team is no slouch. The Gators are coming off a memorable win at Auburn. A victory over Ole Miss would secure the program its first 4-0 start since 2019.
That didn't stop the first-year coach from lauding the Rebels and their star quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss. The 24-year-old turned the Tigers apart, producing more than 360 passing yards and three total touchdowns.
His latest display appears to have surged him to the front of Heisman contention. Sumrall agreed with the sentiment, going one step further.
"They've got the best quarterback in college football, I think. He's a dude," Sumrall said. "They've got a lot of great weapons and so we've got a lot to work on."
Sumrall will look to rally his troops ahead of Saturday's matchup, looking to push the Gators to new heights in front of their home faithful. Perhaps his press conference will serve as reverse psychology for Pete Golding's side. Either way, one can be assured that The Swamp won't care what the Rebels' record is when they take the field.
Expect the chorus of drunken onlookers who pour into Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to denounce Ole Miss regardless of the number next to its title on Saturday afternoon.
