PFF ranks Michigan State's top offensive players in Notre Dame matchup

Michigan State football suffered their first loss of the season, and the first loss of the Pat Fitzgerald era, on Saturday night when the Spartans fell to No. 3 Notre Dame, 27-10. Albeit a three-score loss, the game felt competitive, and the Spartans were able to push their way towards being a more competitive program.

Now, the Spartans are gearing up to look ahead towards Nebraska, but for the fans, it is worth taking one last look at the Notre Dame matchup.

The Michigan State offense had its ups and its downs in this matchup. In the end, finishing with just 167 yards and a little over 22 minutes of possession time, there is still a lot to be desired on that side of the ball.

After looking at the film, and evaluating the game, Pro Football Focus (Subscription Required) gave out their grades for the Spartans in the game.

Check out the top five offensive players for the Spartans, according to PFF:

QB Cam Fancher – 84.0

The Fancher package has been a delightful wrinkle to the Spartans offense, giving the backup quarterback a chance to use his legs and give MSU a spark when it is needed.

LT Ben Murawski – 71.6

The UConn transfer, and highly touted left tackle, finally had his big moment with the Spartans. Murawski was strong against the big time defensive line the Fighting Irish have. His scores broke down to an 80.4 pass block and 66.1 run block.

RT Rakeem Johnson – 69.8

For the first time this year, Johnson graded out well, and could be the momentum building performance he needs to propel himself this season. He graded out as a 69.6 in the pass blocking game and a 69.1 in run blocking.

WR Rodney Bullard – 69.5

The senior wide receiver made some massive plays in the game and had over half of the Spartans receiving yards. Bullard finished the game with two catches for 66 yards.

TE Kai Rios – 68.6

Primarily used as a run blocker, Rios also made a big catch on a first half third down to extend a Spartans scoring drive. He is becoming a good asset to the MSU offense in a secondary role.
