The UCLA-USC rivalry splits streets in the shadows of Hollywood.

First played in 1929, the rivalry rotates between the Coliseum and the Rose Bowl, contrasting glitz and momentum. There will be a new era when this move to SoFi Stadium on UCLA's side, but nonetheless will be great to watch as the Big Ten foes face conference implications.

USC’s quarterback history with Heisman streaks and national recruiting reach was often tested by UCLA’s disruptive potential under coaches like Karl Dorrell and Chip Kelly. From the golden era for the Trojans in the early 2000s to the Bruins' own standing, the rivalry has taken on a new form. Now, Lincoln Riley meets interim coach Tim Skipper with the Trojans needing a win to make a New Year's Six bowl.

The Victory Bell trophy, once commandeered by UCLA students in 1940s hijinks before formal exchange resumed. It symbolizes the rivalry’s cultural tug-of-war in Southern California. Bragging rights are louder than conference stakes here. Wins across freeways and frat houses is what makes this unique.

USC hosts UCLA on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, NBC).
