Georgia and Clemson football have "mutually agreed" to cancel their four previously scheduled matchups from 2029-32, according to documents obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
The Banner-Herald, part of the USA TODAY Network, obtained the document that was signed by both Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks and Clemson athletic director Graham Neff on March 12 through an open records request. The games were agreed upon in 2018 and 2019.
"The parties have mutually agreed to terminate the Contracts and all of the provisions of those contracts, including payment requirements," the document read.
Brooks in May said future games against Clemson could be re-added to the schedule at a neutral location. The four-game series was set to alternate between the schools' home stadiums. Georgia has already canceled a home-and-home series in 2027-28 with another ACC program, Florida State, shifting focus to a neutral-site game for 2028.
“We’re in talks right now," Brooks told the Banner-Herald in May. “I’ve got to get through some other stuff first, but (Neff) and I have been in talks and we’ll see how that evolves over time, but right now my primary focus is on the Florida State game and where that game is going to be played.”
The SEC started a nine-game conference schedule in 2026, whereas most ACC teams are also playing nine-game schedules in what it called a "transition year" for the conference. Clemson, along with four other ACC teams, are playing an eight-game conference schedule in 2026.
One ACC team each season will play an eight-game conference schedule, due to the conference having an odd number of teams (17). Each ACC team is also required to play a Power Four team in nonconference play each season, and Clemson is already set to play an annual series with Notre Dame starting in 2027.
“The reality is when you go to nine conference games and (Georgia) Tech, adding that many games put us in a precarious situation with the number of home and homes we had scheduled,” Brooks said in May. “Instead of just eliminating those games all together, we’re trying to find a way to keep as many of those on the schedule and the simplest way to do that would be to move to a neutral site.”
