Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from 4-star linebacker Jay Schell

The Oklahoma Sooners defense added another blue-chip prospect in the 2028 recruiting class, picking up a commitment from four-star linebacker Jay Schell. Schell joins tight end Connor Arant and Trey Tagliaferri.
Out of Rabun Gap, Ga. Schell chose the Sooners over offers from Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and a number of other Power Four schools. He's considered the No. 1 linebacker in the country by ESPN and the No. 7 linebacker in the nation by Rivals.
As a sophomore in 2025, Schell recorded 77 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and three sacks.
Schell's a versatile linebacker prospect with the ability to play in the middle and rush off the edge in multiple defensive sets. He displays great play recognition and the speed to get sideline to sideline. He's a disruptive force with the ability to be an impact player in Brent Venables defense and on special teams.
