Iowa football inside top 20 of CBS power rankings

Plenty is working for the Iowa Hawkeyes (3-0) to start the college football season.

After a competition throughout the spring and summer, Iowa has settled on its starting quarterback. Hank Brown has played well, too, completing 72.6% of his passes for 473 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Iowa running backs have combined to form the nation's No. 10 rushing attack (268.0 rushing yards per game) and have found paydirt nine times already.

Meanwhile, Iowa boasts the country's top scoring defense, surrendering just 4.3 points per game. The Hawkeye defense has led a pair of shutout victories over Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa.

It's impressed folks nationally. Iowa is ranked No. 18 in CBS Sports' updated college football power rankings.

Iowa has a great opportunity to rise in CBS' power rankings and in the national polls with a win this week at Michigan. The Wolverines are ranked No. 15 in CBS' power rankings.

After beating Oklahoma two weeks ago, Michigan faces yet another difficult matchup this week when Iowa comes to Ann Arbor. The Wolverines worked out some kinks in a 52-17 win against UTEP. Bryce Underwood completed 19 of 25 passes for 223 yards and two TDs. – Brandon Marcello, CBS Sports

While Michigan wound up winning going away, it took the Wolverines a while to get going. Michigan trailed UTEP, 7-0, in the first quarter, and then, 14-7, with less than six minutes left in the second quarter. The Wolverines would lead at halftime, 17-14.

Then, Michigan outscored UTEP 35-3 in the second half.

Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood has thrown for 504 passing yards and three touchdowns against one interception thus far this season. The former five-star signee is also Michigan's leading rusher with 156 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground.
