4 players out, 5 questionable in Wisconsin’s initial injury report vs. Penn State

With the new changes to the Big Ten’s availability report, teams playing in conference games now must provide public injury updates starting four days before the game.

So, on Wednesday, the Wisconsin Badgers and Penn State Nittany Lions both revealed their initial injury reports. And there were quite a few names on both sides.

Wisconsin has ruled four players out: cornerback Cai Bates, wide receiver Jaylon Domingeaux, offensive lineman Michael Roeske, and defensive lineman Xavier Ukponu.

Five more players are questionable: running back Abu Sama III, wide receiver Malachi Coleman, running back Bryan Jackson II, offensive lineman Emerson Mandell, and tight end Ryan Schwendeman. Finally, Wisconsin has listed linebacker Mason Posa, wide receiver Eugene Hilton, quarterback Danny O’Neil, and offensive lineman Kevin Heywood as probable.

Overall, the list makes sense. Wisconsin will be without Cai Bates for the rest of the season. And Luke Fickell had said it’d still be some time for Jaylon Domingeaux, who was seen with a sling last weekend.

Sama, Coleman, and Schwendeman all missed Week 3 for the Badgers. While Sama confidently said he’ll play on Saturday, all three were probably limited at best in practice, along with Jackson and Mandell.

Mason Posa had been dinged up back in Week 2, but played in Week 3. Same with Eugene Hilton. Both are probable as well.

On the other side, Penn State has quite a few players out. The big name is star receiver Koby Howard, who will not play on Saturday. In addition, the Nittany Lions won’t have defensive lineman LaVar Arrington II, cornerback Joshua Johnson, defensive lineman Max Granville, cornerback Tyler Armstead, defensive lineman Mason Robinson, defensive lineman Dayshaun Barrett, offensive lineman Will Tompkins, and tight end Cooper Alexander.

They have six players questionable: linebacker Cam Smith, cornerback Christian Askew, offensive lineman Brock Riker, offensive lineman Dominic Rulli, wide receiver Ethan Black, and tight end Andrew Rappleyea.

Safety Omarion Davis is probable for Penn State.

These injury reports will now be updated daily heading into kickoff, rather than just before the game, giving a clearer picture as to who could play on either side.
