The 68-year-old shared an AI-generated clip of himself and Lee in place of rappers Quavo and Takeoff performing the duo’s ‘HOTEL LOBBY’ song.
Russell Simmons used an AI-generated video to share a positive message toward his ex-wife, Kimora Lee.
Taking to Instagram, the music industry professional created a video using the likeness of himself and Lee in place of rappers Quavo and Takeoff from their 2022 “A COLORS SHOW” performance. In the clip, the former couple stand in for the Hip-Hop duo and appear to rap the lyrics to “HOTEL LOBBY,” as the original vocals play in the background.
The original track was released as the lead single from the ‘UNC & PHEW’ album, recorded and released by the Atlanta rappers in May 2022 before Takeoff was shot and killed in November of that same year.
“We worked good as a team./ for 15 years of dating and marriage and Another 20 years as very close friends and co parents Infact we were famous for our conscious in coupling ? So i hope you know .//I’m still available for my 3 godchildren and When my story is told i will only remember you fondly,” wrote Simmons candidly in his Instagram caption.
“Praying for your continued success Congratulations on your new documentry And i hope ur next chapter is a homerun,” he concluded.
Lee recently opened up about the early stages of her romantic relationship with the co-founder of Def Jam Recordings and revealed that her close friend Tyra Banks attempted to keep her away from the older man. At the time, Simmons was 18 years older than Lee, who was only 16. The ordeal is set to be detailed in the upcoming Lifetime documentary “Kimora Lee: On Her Own.”
“I felt a little bit like she was hating,” revealed the Baby Phat founder, who now admits her perspective has shifted.
The supermodel married Simmons in 1998, and the two remained married until their separation in 2006, ahead of their 2009 divorce. Together, they share two daughters, Ming Lee and Aoki Lee. Earlier this year, Lee officially dropped Simmons’ last name and, in a statement, explained that the change “is rooted in a commitment to clarity and ownership.”
