Rutgers gave visiting No. 12 USC all it wanted in its Big Ten opener on Saturday before falling 42-35. The Scarlet Knights never led but kept pushing, getting to within a touchdown with 4:24 left when Dylan Lonergan connected with Vernon Allen III for a 28-yard scoring pass before the Trojans were able to run out the clock. Antwan Raymond ran for 122 yards and a TD on 21 carries while Lonergan finished 18-of-36 for 252 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions. KJ Duff grabbed seven receptions for 86 yards and a score as well.
Howard returns to Big Ten country coming off a bye after losing 55-0 at then-No. 5 Indiana on Sept. 12. The Bison trailed 41-0 at the half and managed just 57 yards of total offense in the loss. Ja’Shawn Scroggins went 8-of-15 for 43 yards and an interception while the ground game finished with 13 yards on 27 attempts.
The Scarlet Knights hold a 4-0 edge all-time over the Bison with a 44-7 win at home in the most recent matchup on Aug. 29, 2024. Raymond leads Rutgers with 298 rushing yards and a touchdown while Lonergan has 494 yards, five scores and five interceptions on 52.3% passing. Duff leads the receivers with 24 catches, 419 yards and six TDs. Scroggins comes in with 467 yards, four touchdowns and two picks, completing 46.2% of his throws and Travis Kerney leads the running game with 87 yards.
