Ohio State vs. Illinois: Collin Dixon Player Spotlight

When Illinois wide receiver Collin Dixon lines up for the first time on Saturday, it will be the next step in a journey that did not start too far away from Columbus.

Dixon is from Tallmadge, Ohio, and is returning to Ohio as one of the most impressive storylines in college football this season. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound senior has worked his way up the Illinois depth chart each passing year.

Originally committed to Wisconsin, he flipped his commitment to Bret Bielema and the Fighting Illini and then redshirted in 2023. In 2024, he appeared in all 13 games and started in 10. He finished the season with 18 receptions for 264 yards. Last season, his contributions grew by leading Illinois in receiving touchdowns and having 35 catches for 548 yards.

Dixon's growth has been recognized by fans and the staff throughout his career. His teammates voted him as one of the six captains coming into the season.

The admiration has paid off. In three games, Dixon has been one of the most productive wide receivers in the country. He has 25 receptions for 367 yards and leads the country with seven touchdown catches. Dixon has already broken the Illinois record for touchdown catches at home for a season, in just three games.

For Ohio State, the challenge will be clear. Make someone other than Collin Dixon beat you. The connection between quarterback Katin Houser and Dixon has been one of the most efficient in the country. The Buckeyes may be big favorites in Saturday's matchup, but they will have some serious competition lined up on the other side.

Competition that was molded within state boundaries.
