Georgia football plays its SEC home opener Saturday against a program that provided one of the most memorable games in Bulldogs history.
The Bulldogs won the 2018 Rose Bowl in double overtime to reach the national title game.
The stakes aren’t quite high as that CFP semifinal game and the Sooners’ offensive struggles the past two weeks when it scored just three touchdowns have taken some of the shine off the matchup.
“The tape doesn’t say that,” Georgia tight end Lawson Luckie said. “I don’t know what’s happening on the offensive side of the ball. I watch the defensive tape. It’s the same Oklahoma that I heard all these stories about having this unbelievable defense.”
Georgia has hardly been tested in romps over Tennessee State, Western Kentucky and Arkansas.
“If you love to compete and love to be in the arena and you want to go against the best, well, you’re going to have all you can get this week,” Oklahoma coach Brent Venables said.
Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton has two more touchdown passes (9) than incompletions (7) this season.
“Our defense has proven … that we’re hard to move the ball on,” Venables said.
