Fresh off a 54-10 win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles, the Wisconsin Badgers are opening their Big Ten schedule with a road trip to Happy Valley, taking on the No. 13 Penn State Nittany Lions.

This is quite the early challenge for the Badgers, who finally put together a complete performance last weekend against Eastern Michigan. They compiled nearly 500 yards of offense, thanks to 362 passing yards and four total touchdowns from Colton Joseph. Defensively, they forced three turnovers and really shut things down after giving up a touchdown on the opening drive.

Wisconsin hadn’t looked great in its first two games. After a feisty first half against the then-No. 4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Lambeau Field, the Badgers collapsed in the second half of Week 1, losing 41-13. Then, in Week 2, the Badgers comfortably beat Western Illinois 36-9. But it wasn’t the cleanest game, as Wisconsin struggled to be consistent on both sides of the ball after an early 17-0 start in the first quarter.

Now, Wisconsin faces a Penn State team that has gone 3-0 to start the year, but hasn’t really been tested yet. The Nittany Lions have beaten Marshall, Temple, and Buffalo in the first three weeks, teeing off against poor offenses, so Wisconsin is also their first test from a Power 4 standpoint.

Penn State had a strong game in Week 3 against Buffalo, winning 55-13, as they ran for over 300 yards and held Buffalo to just 60 passing yards.
