Nick Saban taunts Tennessee fans on ‘College GameDay’

It’s customary on the modern version of College GameDay for Pat McAfee to play to the home crowd with chants, singalongs, and complimenting their team. Not so for Nick Saban.
GameDay has been touring plenty of SEC sites to start the season, which means that Saban often has to enter into hostile territory. And that happens for good reason since the former Alabama coach spent years taking their souls with victory after victory.
But that’s perhaps nowhere more true than in Knoxville, Tennessee. While Alabama head coach, the Crimson Tide dominated the rivalry with the Volunteers. Although the game is no longer played on the Third Saturday in October, it’s still one of the most intense in college football.
So with the crowd jeering Nick Saban throughout much of the morning like he was Ted Cruz, he took a moment to remind the Tennessee fans that he had a 16-1 career record against them. Although he may have learned from McAfee’s WWE stylings because he set up that he was going to praise the Volunteers, with the College GameDay crowd even chanting his name.
Then came the heel turn that earned a “F*ck Nick Saban” chant.
“WE SMOKED 16 OF 17 CIGARS WHEN WE PLAYED YOU ALL.”

“I’m all in on the University of Tennessee. Because we smoked 16 out of 17 cigars when we played you all,” Saban said.
Ouch.
In case you may not be aware, there is a longstanding tradition of the winners of the rivalry game smoking victory cigars. After Alabama won 15 games in a row between 2006-2021, Tennessee has managed to win their last two home games in the series in 2022 and 2024. The Tide will visit Knoxville again on October 17th. And if they can take care of business against the top-ranked Texas Longhorns on Saturday, they may have a chance to welcome Coach Saban back to town next month.
