Egg Bowl prediction for Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss vs Mississippi State

The Egg Bowl always carries significance, but the rivalry matchup between Ole Miss and Mississippi State has layers that make the game extra exciting.

Ole Miss has a chance to lock up a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Rebels were positioned to host a home game in the CFP in the latest rankings. It would be the first CFP berth in Ole Miss history.

The Bulldogs have a chance to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2022.

Here is our prediction for the Egg Bowl.

Will Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss make College Football Playoff?

Ole Miss is No. 7 in the most recent College Football Playoff rankings and would host No. 10 Alabama in the first round if the season ended today.

Ole Miss would clinch a spot in the 12-team bracket with a win over Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl.

If Ole Miss loses the Egg Bowl it’s still possible the Rebels would make the CFP for the first time, depending on what happens with other teams in the rankings around them.

But it’s also possible Ole Miss could drop in the rankings if Kiffin leaves since the playoff committee evaluates the whole team in the rankings, including coaches who aren’t with the team any more or injured players.
