The Colorado Buffaloes didn’t have the best start against the Baylor Bears, falling 10-3 going into halftime. Things got so out of hand that Deion Sanders decided to make a change at quarterback mid-game.
Reports indicate that Julian Lewis was benched in favor of Isaac Wilson, according to Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports. Even Fornelli didn’t seem surprised by the decision, as Lewis has seemingly struggled this year.
“Colorado has benched Julian Lewis,” Fornelli reported. “Hard to argue with the decision. This offense has been horrible against every P4 team it’s seen so far.”

The sophomore quarterback ended his day with just 75 passing yards while completing 11 of his 16 attempts. He also totaled -17 rushing yards against Baylor on Saturday. Colorado’s offense just couldn’t get the ball moving whatsoever when Lewis was on the field.
Deion Sanders choosing to bench Julian Lewis may have been written on the wall. The Colorado head coach blasted his quarterback in the week leading up to the game against the Bears. Sanders admitted he wanted to see improvement from Lewis with conference play kicking off. However, that message does not appear to have rung home for the young signal-caller.
With four games under his belt, Lewis has accumulated 733 passing yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also owns a 64.2% completion percentage, and his rushing totals are nothing to gloat about, as he has gained -45 yards on the ground.
Deion Sanders will seemingly have a tough decision to make moving forward after Saturday’s matchup against Baylor. Colorado is scheduled to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Week 5. He’ll use the preparation throughout the next week to determine his starting quarterback for that contest.
