NEBRASKA vs. Michigan State Pre-Game Vibes: Just Bring Home the “W”

Yes, it’s true. The last time Nebraska won in East Lansing was 14 years ago
But it’s also true that we’ve only played up there three times since 2012, so, yes, it’s a streak, but it’s far from a horrific one. You want to know another fun stat? Michigan State’s lost three in a row in Lincoln, so there.
Since joining the Big 10, the Huskers hold a 5-4 record vs. Sparty after winning all five of their pre-conference meetings. And one thing seems almost virtually guaranteed – it’s going to be close. Of their nine Big 10 matchups, six have been decided by 5 points or less including five of the last six.
The difference this year is, for the first time since Matt Rhule took over the Huskers, he is coming into the season with an much older and experienced roster – something which has not been the case in recent years for Nebraska, and like a reason they have continually found ways to lose against rosters which have not matched theirs in talent.
Michigan State? You probably haven’t heard of any of their skill players, and looking at their roster, you will see there’s not much reason you would have. But they play tough, physical defense, and, with Pat Fitzgerald in charge, probably won’t make too many mistakes. Ask Kirk Ferentz – don’t turn it over, keep punting and don’t take chances on 4th down and just wait for Nebraska to step in some dog shit. This has been a proven way to win tight games against the Huskers.
But now we have an old offensive line, wide receiver room, and pretty much the entire defense. The only group of whippersnappers is the running backs and they seem to be doing fine, yes?
So, if you’re Michigan State and other future foes, and you can no longer count on these older Huskers to make crippling mistakes late, do you then have an answer?
And if Dana Holgorsen gets Anthony Colandrea and his crew clicking, will the Spartans have the horses to answer?
Better just tune in and watch – I’m all over the map on how this sucker goes – on with the vibes:
- Carter Nelson remains confirmed out, but Luke Lindenmeyer has taken the majority of the snaps and Eric Ingwerson and Wood Bonner should easily be able to pick up the slack. Rex Guthrie is a game-time call, but Dwayne McDougle III has taken over that safety spot, at least based on the last couple of weeks.
- Let’s just get this one out of the way. Yes, THAT’s a penalty, should’ve been an ejection – and still might be a suspension as Texas seems determined to show everyone how low they can go. It’s topped off by him acting like, “Wait. You mean that’s not OK?”
- Forget Tom Brady and Deflategate – How the hell do you grease up a football like that?
- I wish Kenneth Williams nothing but the best – but not today. None of that Alante brown stuff, please.
