Auburn Finally Ends SEC Home Losing Streak With Win Over Vanderbilt

The Auburn Tigers pick up their first SEC win under new head coach Alex Golesh.
The team defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium 21-15.
The game was an excellent bounce-back for DJ Durkin and the Tigers defense, as they continuously pressured Vanderbilt freshman quarterback Jared Curtis and massively decreased the amount of missed tackles and pre-snap issues in the contest.
The Auburn Tigers' offense only scored two of the three touchdowns, as running back Omar Mabson recorded a blocked punt that was picked up by safety Cade Carlson and run into the end zone.
Tigers quarterback Byrum Brown completed two-thirds of his passes, going 18 for 27 for 140 yards with one touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
It appeared that he felt more comfortable in the pocket this week compared to last Saturday, in the team's first loss against the Florida Gators. Joel Gordon and Alex Golesh also worked on rolling him out more to make plays more accessible between him and the receivers.
Auburn's receiving duo of Chas Nimrod and Keshaun Singleton added to their already impressive season with five receptions apiece. Nimrod scored the game's first touchdown on the third drive of the game, and his first of the year when Byrum Brown found him on a 33-yard reception.
Despite Vanderbilt recording more yards than Auburn in the game (311 to 279), the Tigers defense did a great job with one of the biggest issues that has haunted them all season.

Vanderbilt only went 4 for 17 on third down, but still found ways to extend the drives, going 4 for 5 on fourth down. Easily progressed from the past few weeks, but still planning to go as they prepare to have a tough October on the schedule
The win for Golesh and the Tigers snaps a losing streak at Jordan-Hare Stadium against SEC opponents of almost two years. The last time Auburn won an SEC home game was against Texas A&M in November of 2024.
Up next, the Auburn Tigers will head to Knoxville, Tennessee, and Neyland Stadium to take on the ranked Tennessee Volunteers.
Tennessee (3-1) is coming off a heartbreaking loss at home while hosting College Game Day against the number one team in the country, the Texas Longhorns, by a score of 20-17. It could potentially be a very emotional game for Alex Golesh, as he has many ties with the current Tennessee coaching staff, as he was once an offensive coordinator for the Volunteers under Josh Heupel.
Kickoff for the game next Saturday has been announced for 2:30 pm Central Time and will be broadcast on ESPN.
