‘Nobody Does It Better’ – Nick Saban Labels 29-TD QB With ‘Playmaker of All Playmakers’ Tag

Former Alabama coach and ESPN analyst Nick Saban learned a hard lesson about doubting Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.

Speaking Thursday on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Saban vowed never to bet against Chambliss again after the quarterback led No. 8 Rebels to a 32-24 victory over No. 7 LSU Tigers last week.

Nick Saban Says Nobody Executes Better Than Trinidad Chambliss

Saban was in awe of the dual-threat star and hyped up his ability to create plays under pressure.

“I’m going to tell you one thing I learned last week,” Saban said. “I’m never picking against Trinidad ever again. I mean, that guy is the playmaker of all playmakers. You talk about a point guard that can score and create plays for other people in a game. Nobody does it better than him.”

 

The Rebels lost to the ranked 21 Florida Gators, 52-28, on Saturday. Now standing with one loss and three wins. However, Chambliss isn’t letting one brutal night against Florida define what Ole Miss can accomplish this season. The Rebels entered Week 4 ranked No. 6 and undefeated, with Chambliss carrying Heisman Trophy expectations.

However, the Gators overwhelmed Ole Miss 52-28 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, handing the Rebels their first loss. Chambliss, while disappointed, is not expecting the setback to affect them much.

“This isn’t going to define our season,” Chambliss said. “We should feel this type of way. Feel what we’re feeling right now. The things we could have executed. Let that all soak in throughout the week.”

The Rebels now have an open week before traveling to Vanderbilt on October 10. Ole Miss struggled offensively early and managed only two field goals before halftime. The opening drive ended in frustration when the Rebels failed to convert fourth-and-1 from their own 35-yard line.

Chambliss defended the team’s aggressive decision but admitted the failed conversion hurt the offense’s momentum. “Yeah we had a slow start offensively in the first half,” Chambliss said. “I feel like that first drive set the tone. Went for it on fourth-and-1, playing aggressively. We felt confident in our offense. I know (offensive coordinator John David Baker) does as well. That definitely hurt, because I feel like we would have scored.”

Chambliss eventually found his rhythm. He completed 25 of 34 passes for 298 yards, one touchdown and one interception while adding 44 rushing yards and two touchdowns on seven carries.

But Florida’s offense proved too much. The Gators piled up 302 rushing yards and scored 35 points in the second half, leaving Ole Miss unable to keep pace.

“We ended up getting things going in the second half but at that point it was too late,” Chambliss said. “Their offense was rolling. We couldn’t get a stop. Credit to Florida.”

Trinidad Chambliss also briefly left the game late in the first quarter after taking a hit while diving on a run. Deuce Knight was prepared to enter, but Ole Miss called timeout and punted. Chambliss returned for the following possession and did not miss an offensive snap.
