Penn State football team’s report card vs. Wisconsin

STATE COLLEGE – Grading the Penn State football team on its 24-20 loss to Wisconsin Saturday night at Beaver Stadium:

Quarterbacks

D: Rocco Becht misfired on several passes and went 12-for-29 for 114 yards and his first interception of the season.

Running backs

C: James Peoples stood out with 67 yards on 14 carries, but Quinton Martin, Carson Hansen and Cam Wallace struggled.

Receivers

C: Chase Sowell was the lone wideout to have at least one catch, making six for 70 yards. They clearly missed the injured Koby Howard.

Offensive linemen

D: They didn’t generate much push, didn’t open many running lanes for the backs and didn’t protect Becht well in the second half.

Defensive linemen

C: They contained and pressured Colton Joseph for the most part despite a lot of rollouts and misdirection plays.

Linebackers

C: Tony Rojas had a fourth-quarter interception and Kooper Ebel had three quarterback pressures, but couldn’t make late stops.

Defensive backs

B: Josiah Zayas (pick-six) and Daryus Dixson had interceptions, but the group gave up key plays in the red zone.

Special teams

B: Ryan Barker kicked two field goals and coverage was solid, but not much from Zay Robinson on kick returns.

Coaches

D: Matt Campbell and offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser had few answers for Wisconsin’s defense and made some conservative decisions.
