Dante Moore injury update: Oregon QB reportedly not expected to miss season

Oregon quarterback Dante Moore sustained a scary injury in the Ducks' win vs Southern California that saw him stretchered off the field and taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

The Ducks have reportedly received some positive news on their star quarterback, according to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz. Moore sustained a concussion from the hit he took from Trojans defender Desman Stephens II, but isn’t believed to have sustained any additional injuries.

Moore exited the Ducks' eventual 41-27 win over the Trojans in the second quarter after Stephens hit Moore late as the latter slid to give himself up on second-and-9. Prior to his injury, Moore had completed 8-of-10 passes for 77 yards.

The 6-foot-3 quarterback entered the season as one of college football's top quarterbacks and a potential top pick in the upcoming NFL draft. He has completed 69-of-99 passes for 926 yards and nine touchdowns through four games this season.

Oregon is idle in Week 5 before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 10 against UCLA at home. Here's the latest on Moore's injury:

Dante Moore injury update

Moore sustained a rather scary head injury in the first half of Oregon's road game at USC on Saturday in Los Angeles.

The injury occurred near the 10-minute mark of the second quarter at the Coliseum on a quarterback keeper. As Moore began his slide, Stephens delivered a late hit with his forearm to Moore's head, knocking his head backward onto the turf.

The Oregon quarterback was eventually put onto a stretcher, taken off the field and placed into an ambulance that was parked at the tunnel. NBC's broadcast noted that Moore was seen moving his fingers as he was stretchered off the field.

Moore was transported to a nearby hospital. Lanning, in his postgame news conference, said Moore was recovering and "has the ability to move," but didn't expand further from there, as he did not want to speculate on the severity of his quarterback's injury.

Moore was replaced by backup quarterback Dylan Raiola.

Following the Ducks' win over the Trojans on Saturday, Oregon coach Dan Lanning called the hit "disgusting."

"There's a reason targeting exists in football, and that's as clear as day targeting. It's a shame that happened to a good player when, in my mind, that certainly could have been avoided, so it's disappointing," Lanning said. "It's a disgusting play. You don't want to see it happen. It's disappointing that it happened."
