No time to sulk, Tiger fans. It’s Homecoming week.

We’ve covered the history of Mizzou homecoming ad nauseam over the years, and any real Tiger fan is aware of the significance of the event without our help. The coming week is sure to bring plenty of good vibes to campus and, hopefully, to a football program in need of them.

In the cold light of day, the loss at Mississippi State is discouraging, though not entirely debilitating. That’s especially true with Florida coming to town. The Gators, who just jumped into the AP Top 10 in the first time in a few years, are surging under new coach Jon Sumrall. They just walloped Ole Miss at home and are being pegged as a College Football Playoff contender… but maybe the Tigers can put a halt to some of that momentum.

After all, the Gators have been an utter train wreck over the past few years, and the culture of a program doesn’t get cured in one season. Is Florida a very, very good team? No doubt. Will it be very hard to beat them, even with a Homecoming atmosphere? Of course. But Mizzou, despite losing its first game of the season, showed they had an opportunity to win a Top 25 road matchup on Saturday night, meaning Florida isn’t exactly out of their league.

FanDuel expects a close one, with Florida opening as a -4.5 favorite. I’d expect that line to shrink this week. Eli Drinkwitz has had the Gators’ number over the past few meetings, and the noise about how Mizzou hasn’t beat a Top 25 team in a long time will irk him. Look out for a tight contest in Columbia next weekend.
