Michigan tumbles out of AP Poll after loss to Iowa

The Michigan football team’s had some deeply irritating losses in the last two years. But perhaps none have been as profoundly frustrating as this Saturday, when the Wolverines led with minutes to spare, only for Iowa to march down the field on a 91-yard drive and secure a shocking victory with a walkoff touchdown on the final play of the game.
And the voters have punished Michigan for it, sending the Wolverines tumbling out of the AP Top 25. After climbing back to being ranked following their upset victory over Oklahoma two weeks ago, Michigan has been booted right back out.
In my opinion, it was deserved. The Wolverines didn’t have their absolute worst outing of the season against the Hawkeyes, but I think that’s what makes the loss even more unacceptable. Michigan’s doom ended up being its lack of discipline and hemorrhaging of penalty yardage, a systemic problem that is more worthy of a plummet down the ranks than any one-game anomaly would indicate.
The top three of Texas, Georgia and Notre Dame remains unchanged. Around the conference, Ohio State rises to No. 4, as Indiana checks in at No. 6, Iowa at No. 14, Oregon at No. 15, USC at No. 18 and, perhaps most surprisingly, UCLA at No. 23.
