‘I Bleed Maroon and White’: Kamario Taylor Puts Transfer Rumors to Rest With Powerful Message to Nick Saban

Mississippi State Bulldogs quarterback Kamario Taylor did not need long to answer the noise around his future. Fresh off a 31-24 win over Missouri that kept the Bulldogs unbeaten, the sophomore walked into the postgame room with a question waiting for him. A famous voice from the sport had put his name in the spotlight, and Taylor’s reply left little room for doubt.

Kamario Taylor responds to Nick Saban’s transfer portal push

The comments came on ESPN’s College GameDay before kickoff on Saturday. Former Alabama coach Nick Saban, now an analyst for the show, picked Mississippi State and then pointed at the transfer market.

“If I was coaching right now, I’d be trying to get KaMario Taylor to get in the portal.” Saban told viewers.

Taylor backed up that praise in Starkville that night. He completed 27 of 38 passes for 360 yards and three touchdowns, and his 24-yard throw to Sanfrisco Magee with 3:57 left broke a tie.

Running back Fluff Bothwell added 122 rushing yards and a score as Mississippi State piled up 499 total yards. It also gave the Bulldogs their first win over a ranked opponent as a ranked team since 2014.

Reporters asked Taylor about Saban’s words after the game. He kept his answer calm and direct.

“If you know me, you know I bleed maroon and white.” Taylor said.

He added that he tries not to dwell on outside talk during the season. That message fits his story, and the numbers behind it explain why the noise keeps growing.

Taylor’s rise has been quick. The sophomore from Macon, Mississippi, has thrown for 1,192 yards and 14 touchdowns through four games, with only two interceptions. His numbers have also placed him in the Heisman conversation. He is completing 69.2 percent of his passes for a team that sits at 4-0 and 2-0 in the SEC.

Bulldogs fans have noticed, and so have others. Chiefs star and Bulldogs alum Chris Jones recently pledged to donate to the school’s NIL efforts to help keep Taylor in Starkville.

Loyalty is not new for him. Georgia made a late push to flip him during recruiting, yet he stayed with the Bulldogs, and he also passed on the chance to transfer after last season. So far, Taylor has given no sign that he plans to leave.

Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0 SEC) hosts No. 8 Alabama (4-0, 2-0) on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. CT on ABC. Keelon Russell leads the Tide, who have won 16 straight against the Bulldogs.
