Florida leaps in The Athletic's re-rank after Week 4 win over Ole Miss

Florida football's Week 4 victory over Ole Miss has the program surging in the latest rankings, including the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25, which both have the Gators sitting at No. 8 after the signature win.
The various other standings have also been bullish on the Orange and Blue, including The Athletic's 138 re-rank, which elevated Florida 10 spots to No. 6 in its latest offering. That puts the Gators between No. 5 Notre Dame and No. 7 Alabama.
"Maybe this shouldn’t be a surprise, since all Jon Sumrall has done is win," author Chris Vannini begins.
"In two years as head coach at Troy, he won two Sun Belt championships. In two years at Tulane, he reached two American Conference championship games, winning one and earning a College Football Playoff spot. He took over a Florida program that went 4-8 in 2025 and has already equaled last year’s win total thanks to a dominant 52-28 win against an Ole Miss team that entered the weekend in the top five," he continues.
"Their performance last weekend is the second-best win of the season at the moment, just behind Texas’ comeback win against Ohio State, and this one came in blowout fashion. The Gators’ 214 points through four games are their most since the 1996 national championship season, and they are 2-0 in the SEC. The Gators have arrived in the national conversation."

The Southeastern Conference once again has eight schools among the top 25 of The Athletic's re-rank, with Texas leading the way at No. 1, followed by Georgia (No. 3), Florida (No. 6), Alabama (No. 7), Ole Miss (No. 9) and LSU (No. 10) in the top 10. The remaining schools representing the league are Mississippi State (No. 12) and Tennessee (No. 18).
