AP Top 25: After Week 4

I hope you’re enjoying college football season, because it will be over before you know it. We are already into the final couple days of September. Almost every team around has played at least one conference game. There’s been plenty of big, ranked matchups already, and now we’re at a point where we’ll get a couple more every weekend.

Some of those happened last week, although not involving our North Carolina Tar Heels. For one, UNC was off last week, but they’re also not particularly close to getting ranked. However, it was nice to get a weekend to check out some of the other action that was going on around the country. With the weekend now over, let’s take a look at how it shook up the rankings this week.

Where is UNC?

Well, the Tar Heels already weren’t getting votes after the recent loss to Clemson. Considering that they then didn’t play in the meantime, that hasn’t gotten them into the rankings or getting any votes.

Biggest Winners

A week after Ole Miss had the most notable victory of the week, they traveled to “The Swamp” to take on Florida, and the Gators beat them for arguably the most notably victory over the week. Florida’s Jadan Baugh ran all over Ole Miss on route to a 50-point offensive game for the Gators. Thanks to that victory, Florida jumped 13 spots in the poll and have cracked the top ten. I wonder who their coach is and if UNC ever had an interest in him?

Meanwhile, Texas further cemented their #1 ranking with their win at Tennessee. The Longhorns are now getting all but eight of the first place votes.

Biggest Losers

Four teams dropped out of the Top 25 this week, all after losses. No one had a bigger fall than Penn State, though. Following an unexpected loss to Wisconsin, the Nittany Lions went from #13 to unranked this week. They ended up as the third highest vote-getters among unranked teams, so that’s a nice 15 spot drop.
