Notre Dame moves up 2 spots in ESPN FPI rankings after Week 4

Notre Dame (4-0) is once again No. 3 in the latest US LBM Coaches and Associated Press polls.

Despite the same spot in the polls, ESPN thinks the Fighting Irish deserve to be higher in their updated college football power index.  In the latest FPI rankings, Notre Dame has gone from No. 4 to No. 2. The Irish’s FPI is 27.8, which is tied with Ohio State and 0.5 points lower than top-ranked Georgia’s number (28.3).

Notre Dame’s projected win-loss record in the FPI is 11.1-0.9, with a 39% chance to win out. The Irish now have a 84.8% chance to reach the College Football Playoff following last season’s snub.

Also for Notre Dame, ESPN’s FPI notes that the team has a 24.7% probability of reaching the CFP national championship game and a 13.9% chance of winning it all. The Irish will face North Carolina in a Saturday road contest.
