The LSU Tigers signed a historic group of defensive line prospects in this past recruiting cycle. It never felt like it was "if" one of them was gonna break out, but "when." Just four games into their careers, one has already arrived on the big stage.

Star defensive lineman Deuce Geralds was named the SEC's Freshman of the Week for his part in the Tigers' blowout win over the Texas A&M Aggies this past weekend.

Geralds had a busy Saturday with five tackles, a sack and two TFLs. There was also another play where he ran up to a tackle pile and just ripped the ball out of the carrier's hands, but this one was supposedly blown dead beforehand. Either way, it doesn't take away the effort he showed on the play.

The true Freshman wasted no time separating himself from his peers when he arrived on campus, hitting the ground running. His athleticism and explosion off the snap are incredible to witness. By the end of Spring, it became clear that he was going to be a regular contributor this season.

Geralds stepped into a room with former five-stars and solidified veterans, and has now played more than any other interior lineman so far this year, per Pro Football Focus.

Impressively, Geralds earned a start in his first game. He had his biggest lapses in that first game, but has been lights-out since, especially as a pass rusher up the middle. He ha

Through four games now, Geralds has picked up nine total pressures, nine tackles, four sacks and that one forced fumble that counted. He hasn't been as dominant against the run, but he also hasn't missed a tackle since the first week.

Geralds is a little bit undersized for an interior lineman, listed at 6-foot-1 and 285, but he uses that to his advantage. Not only has he been one of the best defensive players so far this year, but he also has his entire career ahead of him to continue improving.

It should not be held against Richard Anderson or Lamar Brown, the other top recruits on the line, that they aren't as involved in the defense yet. What Geralds is doing right now is just special.

Anderson has seen the field a little bit in a rotational role on the interior. He missed a tackle the first week, like Geralds, but hasn't made a huge mistake since. Lamar Brown saw the field a bit in the first couple of weeks. At some point, LSU will be able to look forward to all three playing together.
