Auburn's Brutal October Stretch Could Define Alex Golesh's First Season

The Auburn Tigers prepare for their toughest month of the 2026 regular season.
With the team going 3-1 in September, the first month in the Alex Golesh era, the Auburn Tigers are heading into a gauntlet for October.
After their victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday, the team will begin a four-game stretch against teams currently in the AP Top 25, with three of the four games away from Jordan-Hare Stadium.
This is the type of stretch that can easily make or break your season and define a first-year identity for Alex Golesh since becoming the head coach on the Plains.
If Auburn can find a way to pick up at least one victory in the month of October, it could be seen as a win for the program. However, don't rule out the squad that continues to show progress each and every single week.
Here is what the tough month of October looks like for the Auburn Tigers.
October 3rd at Tennessee Volunteers
The Tennessee Volunteers enter the matchup on Saturday with plenty of talent, but potential major questions in the injury department. The team is coming off a tough 20-17 loss at Neyland Stadium against the number one team in the country, the Texas Longhorns.
The Volunteers' quarterback, Faizon Brandon, had an apparent injury during the game. The young signal caller did return to the field, but his status for Saturday remains unknown. The Tennessee offensive line also allowed 10 sacks against the Longhorns' defense, something that could be seen as a vulnerability.
October 17th at Georgia Bulldogs
This is surely the hardest game of the four-game stretch.
Once again, the Georgia Bulldogs look like one of the best teams in the country, and it's not remotely close. The Bulldogs' defense is dangerous and one of the most experienced in the nation. Kirby Smart returns 13 players on the defensive side who logged at least 200 snaps.
The Auburn Tigers have struggled against the Bulldogs lately, as Georgia has won the last nine games against the Tigers, dating back to the 2017 season.
October 24th vs. LSU Tigers
This is a fascinating game on the schedule for the Auburn Tigers.
Not only is this game at home at Jordan-Hare Stadium, but it is the eighth straight game for LSU before their only bye week of the season.
LSU is currently 3-1 after losing to Ole Miss in the third week of the season, 32-24. The team will travel to Kentucky and then host Mississippi State, both currently AP top-25 teams, before their trip to the Plains. There is a strong possibility Lane Kiffin's squad could be limping into Jordan-Hare.
October 31st at Ole Miss Rebels
After being the college football darlings of 2025, Ole Miss was grounded back to earth last Saturday with a loss like the Auburn Tigers to the Florida Gators. Ole Miss lost 52-28, a worse outing than Auburn had in their SEC opener.
The Rebels still have Trinidad Chambliss, and with him, their offense will always be dangerous, but their defense has shown signs of being suspect. However, the competition they have faced has been strong.
Ole Miss has already faced three AP top-25 teams, including Louisville, LSU, and Florida. They will likely play two more in Missouri and on the road against Texas before hosting the Tigers.
Pete Golding has a difficult schedule at the end of October, with Auburn right in the middle. Old Miss will travel to Austin to take on the Longhorns before hosting Auburn and immediately host the Georgia Bulldogs.
Auburn could possibly be overlooked.
With the Tigers already at 3-1, picking up at least one victory in October should set them up for an improved season from 2025. The team would have a good chance at picking up two more victories in the final four games of the year and clinching bowl eligibility for the first time since 2023.
