College football Heisman Trophy watch after Week 4

Week 4 of the 2026 college football season is officially in the books.
Texas is still the top team in the AP Top 25, followed by Georgia, Notre Dame, Miami and Ohio State. Indiana, Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss and BYU round out the top 10.
There have been so many great individual performances from some players to start the season, which is a big deal because some of them will be in the Heisman Trophy conversation at the end of the year.
Which players are on the Heisman Trophy watch list? Well, let’s take a look:
Miami quarterback Darian Mensah
Darian Mensah has been electric in his first season as Miami’s starting quarterback. He has helped the program to a 4-0 start, throwing for 1,211 yards, 14 touchdowns and no interceptions.
He’s also completing 88.7 percent of his passes and has one rushing touchdown. Mensah has been everything Miami fans have asked for and will be in the Heisman Trophy conversation if he continues his stellar season.
Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith
Jeremiah Smith has been arguably the best wide receiver in football to start the season. He is putting up video game numbers, compiling 33 receptions for 617 yards and seven touchdowns.
He’s already over 3,000 career receiving yards and can make any catch in the book. It doesn’t matter if there’s one defender on him or multiple. He’s that good.
Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss and Ole Miss got blown out by Florida on Saturday, but the former is still having a great season. He already has 1,222 yards through the air, eight touchdowns and three interceptions in four games.
His game against LSU was easily his best of the season, finishing with 363 yards through the air, two touchdowns and one interception.
He’s already looking like one of the best quarterbacks in the country and could be picked high in the 2027 NFL Draft if the rest of his season goes great.
Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor
Kamario Taylor’s season isn’t getting enough attention. He’s been awesome, throwing for 1,192 yards, 14 touchdowns and only two interceptions.
He has also led Mississippi State to a perfect 4-0 record, good for No. 16 in the AP poll.
Taylor can make any throw you want and is dangerous outside the pocket. He’ll face tougher tests ahead, but he’s shown no signs that he can’t handle it.
Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney
It’s only natural to put Toney in this final spot because there’s also an argument that he’s the best wideout in the nation. He and Mensah make an insane quarterback/wide receiver duo.
Toney has compiled 34 receptions for 564 yards and six touchdowns through four games, and, like Smith from above, has been unguardable.
He burst onto the scene as a freshman last year and recorded 1,211 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has a fairly good shot at blowing past those numbers this year.
