Georgia football flips top 2027 JUCO recruit Alius Mayo from Cal

Georgia football has landed its first new public commitment in nearly two months, and it comes from the junior college ranks.

Modesto (Calif.)  College cornerback Alius Mayo flipped from Cal to Georgia on Tuesday Sept. 29, according to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Mayo is ranked the No. 1 junior college prospect by the 247Sports Composite.

The Stockton, Calif., product committed to Cal on Aug. 2. Georgia cornerback coach Donte’ Williams is a California native who coached in junior college in the state and at USC.

Mayo has 2 interceptions and 9 tackles in three games this season after registering 5 interceptions, 30 tackles and 5 pass breakups as a freshman.

He had previously committed to Cal over Alabama, LSU, Arizona State and others, according  to the Stockton Record.

Mayo had 51 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, one fumble recovery and two defensive touchdowns in 11 games as a senior at Lincoln High.

"This is something I've always seen for myself, even with no offers coming out of high school," Mayo told the Stockton Record when he committed to Cal. "I spoke it into existence every single day because I believed in myself. I believed in the God-given abilities I have, and I gave it everything I had. Anything I put my mind to, I was going to accomplish."

Mayo is Georgia's only cornerback commitment in its 21-player class. Starting junior cornerback Ellis Robinson is considered a first-round talent and cornerback starter Demello Jones is also draft-eligible.

Georgia's last commitment before Mayo was four-star safety Seth Williams from Lakeside (Dekalb) on July 31.
