STARKVILLE — There was a scuffle during the 2025 Egg Bowl.

The skirmish occurred in the second quarter after Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss fumbled on a strip sack by Malick Sylla. Mississippi State linebacker Nic Mitchell recovered the fumble. Then, players from both teams began pushing each other as the scrum broke out.

No players were ejected, however. Ole Miss‘ Deuce Alexander and Delano Townsend were assessed personal foul penalties, and so was Sylla.

Video review also overturned the fumble into an incomplete pass.

The No. 6 Rebels (10-1, 6-1 SEC) led 14-7 at the time against the Bulldogs (5-6, 1-6) at Davis Wade Stadium on Nov. 28.

Ole Miss wound up punting two plays later from the MSU 39-yard line. Then, Mississippi State kicked a field goal to cut the score to 14-10.

Lane Kiffin critical of Mississippi State, AD in scuffle

Kiffin addressed the scuffle in a TV interview before halftime.

“We’re trying to play football here,” he said. “For a whole sideline to try to fight and leave, their (Mississippi State) whole sideline including their athletic director (Zac Selmon), I’ve never seen anything like it. We’re not trying to start a fight so our university can get credit for fighting people. Our guys stayed on the sideline like their supposed to.”
