Iowa Football Finally Has a Quarterback, And That Should Terrify the Rest of the Big Ten

Iowa could really be a national contender thanks to the improvement of Hank Brown.
For years, Iowa football has been a running joke around college football because of its offense.
In fact, you could say it was offensive that the Hawkeyes played on that side of the ball.
But in 2026, all of that has changed because of one player.

Hank Brown came to Iowa following two disappointing seasons at Auburn. He played in five games and made two starts for the Tigers, going 1-1.
Brown threw for just over 500 yards and six touchdowns in those two seasons. He made the decision to leave for Iowa City after.
Hank Brown Has Always Handled Change Very, Very Well
For Brown, moving and transferring is nothing new. He started his high school career in Illinois before moving to Tennessee. There, he played for former NFL standout and Super Bowl champion Trent Dilfer at Lipscomb Academy.
He committed to Liberty before throwing for over 3,000 yards, 47 touchdowns and winning a state title for Dilfer. That led to Auburn and Hugh Freeze becoming interested.

But it didn’t work out for Brown.
Iowa Found Its Quarterback In The Transfer Portal
Honestly, the Hawkeyes have preferred to stick with their home-recruited talent instead of using the transfer portal much. But head coach Kirk Ferentz knew his team needed a shot in the arm.
Enter Brown through the portal, and what a welcome it has been.
Brown played in three games last year, completing just over 52 percent of his passes with a touchdown and 107 yards. None of that screams star, but it gave a glimpse into what was coming.
This year, Brown has been electric. Fresh off throwing a game-winning touchdown to beat Michigan on the road, he will lead the Hawkeyes into Kinnick Stadium on Saturday to play Ohio State.
Sure, the Buckeyes are favored by over two touchdowns and expected to win. But crazier things have happened.
And with Brown at the controls, the Hawkeyes at least have a fighting chance to score the upset.
