Before this season, Mississippi State had won one SEC game in two years under head coach Jeff Lebby, and the program hadn’t had a winning conference campaign since 2014. But after a fun win over South Carolina and a thrilling victory at Missouri, the team is 4-0 for the first time since 2014.
This might be one of the biggest games in a long, long time for the Bulldogs. It’s another Saturday in the SEC for Alabama, who’s coming off a crushing 49-18 win over South Carolina – Miss State beat the Gamecocks 41-34 – as part of a dominant 4-0 start.

Why Alabama Will Win
As good as Mississippi State has been, it hasn’t dealt with anything like the Crimson Tide offense that’s humming along.
Can we start to put quarterback Keelon Russell in the Heisman conversation yet? He’s hitting 71% of his passes, has run for 168 yards and three touchdowns so far, and is in total command of the attack that’s fourth in the nation in scoring.
The one area that wasn’t cranking was the ground game. 216 yards later against South Carolina last week, Bama appears to have fixed the glitch.
Why Mississippi State Will Win
Yes, Keelon Russell deserves early Heisman consideration, but Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor is playing as well as anyone in the country. So far, he has completed an SEC-high 14 touchdown passes and is averaging close to 300 passing yards per game.
Taylor’s amazing start gets the spotlight, but the defense has also been terrific, allowing just 3.2 yards per carry and finding ways to hold up when it absolutely has to.
