One analyst believes Texas A&M's struggles fall '100%' on Mike Elko

Texas A&M's 2026 season has sunk to a disastrous level after back-to-back double-digit road losses to Kentucky and LSU, leaving them 2-2 overall and 0-2 in SEC play. After reaching the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history, third-year coach Mike Elko's questionable offseason moves are slowly coming back to haunt him, especially if the poor play continues.

Texas A&M didn't just suffer an SEC road loss, which is typical for most teams, but was absolutely dominated on both sides of the ball, especially in the passing game, as starting quarterback Marcel Reed threw for a career-low 106 yards and zero touchdowns, looking confused and out of sorts all night.

The Aggie defense was equally bad, allowing LSU QB Sam Leavitt, who was clearly injured, to pass for a cool 312 yards and two touchdowns, while star cornerback Dezz Ricks apparently took a night off in coverage, allowing 125 yards and a touchdown after his impressive start to the year.

For some in the Aggie fan base, this season is a wash, but with eight games remaining, it's not my job to play the blame game, at least not yet. However, one analyst has already taken that route: Aaron Torres said on Sunday that Texas A&M's struggles fall "100%" on Mike Elko, mainly because he elevated wide receiver coach Holmon Wiggins to the role of the program's new offensive coordinator/play-caller.

In agreement with Torres that running an SEC program is like running a "$100 million company," Holmon Wiggins has done a decent job getting receivers open in space for Marcel Reed, but the scheme, compared to former OC and current Kansas State coach Collin Klein, is cutting it.

Texas A&M's offense is currently ranked dead last (136th) nationally in explosive plays, and while Marcel Reed deserves a bulk of the blame for his poor play, elevating Wiggins, who is one of the best assistant coaches and recruiters in the country, as the team's play-caller with zero experience has produced the results the offseason doubters expected.
