Most College Football Playoff projections have the US LBM Coaches Poll No. 3 Notre Dame floating in-and-out as a potential top-5 seed.

In On3’s latest mock CFP bracket, the Fighting Irish are the No. 5 seed. According to Andy Staples of On3, Notre Dame will host No. 12 Boise State in the opening round of the tournament. The winner of that game, Staples noted, will take on No. 4 Indiana in the Rose Bowl.

Staples explains why the Irish are considered the fifth seed after their Week 4 win over Purdue.

“Notre Dame ran the ball better in a 49-10 win against Purdue than it has against anyone else this season,” Staples said. “The Boilermakers aren’t the best competition, but the Fighting Irish needed a game against a power conference opponent where they averaged more than five yards a carry. QB C.J. Carr and the defense continue to be steady, and we’re counting down the days until Notre Dame goes to Provo to face BYU.”

Notre Dame (4-0) will be on the road to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels this weekend.
