STARKVILLE — Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin has a deadline to decide his future.

The No. 6 Rebels (11-1, 7-1 SEC) beat the Bulldogs 38-19 at Davis Wade Stadium on Nov. 28.

LSU and Florida have emerged as SEC rivals wanting to hire Kiffin. A decision about Kiffin’s future will be announced Nov. 29, per Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter.

Kiffin was asked after the Egg Bowl if he expects to have his future decided by then.

I feel like I‘ve got to,” Kiffin said.

Kiffin said the decision is hard.

I‘m not trying to get pity but it’s not as enjoyable as maybe some people think.”

What Lane Kiffin said about his dad, Monte Kiffin

Kiffin has been thinking about his father, Monte, frequently over the past week. In addition to being a revered NFL coach, Monte was a close confidant for his son.

Monte died July 11, 2024. Kiffin also lost his mother, Robin, in July.

“I miss my dad,” Kiffin said. “I really missed him this week.”

Kiffin says he still has people to ask for advice. He looks for advisers like his father.

“So my two calls would be the closest two to (dad) for advice,” Kiffin said. “What my dad would say to do. It would be coach (Pete) Carroll and coach (Nick) Saban. I kind of wish when you have things to do in life you wish your dad was there.”

Kiffin was an assistant under Carroll at USC from 2001-06 and under Saban at Alabama from 2014-16.
