While many Penn State fans are rightfully a bit upset with what quarterback Rocco Becht has looked like over the first couple of weeks of the season, there's still a sense that Becht can be the guy that the Nittany Lions need him to be.
Ultimately, Penn State still has a lot of the season ahead, and if it can win out, it will be in a position to at least be in the College Football Playoff. I never would have thought Penn State would lose to Wisconsin, but that is now behind the Nittany Lions, and they have to come out and do what's needed against a decent Northwestern team.
Northwestern seems well prepared for this game against Penn State, and there's plenty of reason to believe the Wildcats will come out and do what's needed on both sides of the ball as they prepare to play in a brand-new stadium for the first time.
Speaking to reporters, however, Northwestern also understands what kind of program Penn State is.
That includes what the Nittany Lions quarterback can do, with Northwestern's head coach giving Becht a lot of praise for his play in the past.
“He processes really well, throws a really good ball. Ultimately, he’s a winner. I’m excited to continue to go through our process and like identify a limitation or a weakness or a chink in the armor. But it’s really hard to find right now. I mean, I give him a compliment. That’s the ultimate compliment. The guy’s a winner. He’s a competitor, and he processes at a really high level. I mean, he makes it go,” Northwestern head coach David Braun said, per Centre Daily.
It's not crazy to see Braun make these comments about Becht, mainly because he's a veteran who's been around college football for a long time.
That doesn't ultimately mean that he's going to win games at a high level and do what's needed, but coaches are always going to respect guys who have the resume and pedigree that he does throughout his young career. I'm curious to see if that results in a win this weekend, however.
